Becoming Cary Grant

A wonderful new film from Mark Kidel about Bristol-born Hollywood icon Cary Grant, featuring a soundtrack from The Insects and Adrian Utley(Portishead).

The film had its World Premiere at the Cannes film festival 2017.

Using words and insights from his unpublished autobiography and newly discovered personal footage, BECOMING CARY GRANT unveils the intimate story of Archie Leach, the man behind the mask of the beloved and charming Hollywood legend known as Cary Grant. From his difficult childhood without his mother, through his 30 years of stardom, to the joys of his later years as a father, the film uncovers a side of Grant never seen by the public. BECOMING CARY GRANT plumbs the depths of Grant’s insecurities and reveals his unique journey of self-exploration through recounts of his probing LSD therapy sessions. The 85-minute documentary features a treasure trove of extracts from Grant’s films and exclusive interviews with his close friends about his troubled past.

Artic Kingdom – Life at the Edge

The Insects won an Emmy award for the score to ‘Arctic Kingdom: Life at the Edge’ – a “National Geographic Special” documentary.

Director Lisa Truitt spent a year on the ice-cap making this atmospheric, emotionally charged and visually arresting film. It really is a bit special.

We had a little under 3 weeks to write the score, which was completed and mixed at Ray Colcords studio in Studio City. LA.Cal

The voice-over on the film is by the late James Coburn.

Everest – Beyond the Limit

Everest – Beyond the Limit. This third season for Discovery channel was one of the most challenging documentary series we’ve ever scored.

Why wouldn’t it be? We’re both scared of heights!

Dolphins – The Wild Side

Directed and filmed by Paul Atkins, this was a ground-breaking film – documenting the behavioural psychology of dolphins.
Based in Hawaii, Atkins is a legendary underwater cameraman and filmmaker, renowned for his shark photography.

We worked with drummer Clive Deamer (Portishead,Radiohead) on this soundtrack to help create a dark, sinister edge as well as excitement and beauty.
